Checking Up on Your Pet’s Health

An important part of maintaining your pet’s health and enhancing their quality of life is making sure your pet sees their veterinarian regularly. At Arlington Pet Care Hospital, we understand that visits to the doctor can be scary or uncomfortable for your pets. We strive to make their visit as comfortable and stress-free as possible. We treat your pets as we would treat our own furry family members.

Regular checkups are an essential component of preventative medicine. We strongly believe that seeing your pet regularly will allow us to know what is normal for their health and thus we will be able to identify any deviations. This allows us to intervene early before any health irregularities become larger issues. We recommend that most pets come see our Arlington veterinarians at least every six months, though we may recommend more frequent visits depending on your pet’s specific health needs.

Physical Exams at Arlington Pet Care Hospital

Wellness exams at our veterinary hospital look very similar to the annual physical exams we humans receive from our doctors. Our Arlington veterinary team will perform a visual exam of your pet from nose to tail, and everything in between. This comprehensive look is helpful for spotting any obvious health issues, as well as observing your pet’s general mood and behavior.

We’ll ask you a variety of questions about your pet’s recent health and behavior, and whether you’ve noticed any changes in their usual habits.

We may also ask you questions about your pet’s:

  • Activity level

  • Bowel movements

  • Breathing

  • Diet

  • Lifestyle

If you’re a new patient, in addition to the topics we’ve covered above, we may also ask you about your pet’s medical history and whether they have any existing health conditions which we should know about. We ask these questions in order to get a clear picture of your pet’s health from the person who knows your pet best – you.

During your pet’s physical exam, we may also order laboratory tests for your pet. These tests, like blood work or urinalysis, tell us what’s going on beyond your pet’s fur or feathers and can help us complete the picture of your pet’s overall health. These tests will also help us understand what diseases your pet might be predisposed to as well as monitor existing health conditions.

Based on all of the information we collect during your pet’s physical exam, we’ll be able to make tailored recommendations for your pet’s ongoing healthcare. We’ll equip you with the knowledge you need to give your pet the happiest, healthiest life possible.
